While dental school often provides only a limited introduction to pediatric dentistry, many general dentists find themselves treating children without the depth of training needed to navigate the clinical and behavioral nuances unique to this population. That’s where Pedo4GP comes in.
We provide a comprehensive bridge between general dentistry and pediatric care—giving general dentists the tools they need to deliver high-quality treatment to children, particularly in underserved communities.
Dr. Jerry Lanier, a General Practitioner and former U.S. Public Health Service dentist, founded Pedo4GP after decades of firsthand experience treating children in some of the nation’s most underserved communities.
Early in his career at a housing project clinic in New Orleans, Dr. Lanier witnessed the overwhelming need for accessible pediatric dental care. Inspired by the long lines of children waiting for treatment, he shifted his focus as a GP to serve this population directly.
Dr. Lanier went on to build and sell Kids Dental Kare in 2017, and in 2020, he founded Kids 2 Dentist, a Central California-based group of practices dedicated to serving low-income and immigrant communities. Throughout his journey, he remained committed to addressing the nationwide provider shortage—not just by hiring pediatric specialists, but by empowering GPs to step confidently into the pediatric space.
Over 30 years ago, he launched the Pedo4GP course to train general dentists in pediatric techniques. That course has since grown into a full-scale movement: a platform for education, mentorship, and lasting impact.
In addition to our core training program, Pedo4GP offers live, in-person continuing education (CE) courses led by top-tier dental experts. Each course is presented in a classroom-style lecture format, with interactive Q&A sessions that allow participants to engage with the speaker, ask case-specific questions, and walk away with actionable insights.
These courses are designed for general dentists who want to deepen their clinical skills, expand their comfort zone with pediatric care, and earn CE credits while building community with peers across the country.
At Pedo4GP, our mission is to revolutionize how pediatric dental care is delivered in underserved communities—not just by increasing access, but by fundamentally reshaping who provides that care and how it’s delivered.
We believe that general dentists are essential to solving the pediatric care shortage, especially in communities where access to pediatric specialists is limited or nonexistent. That’s why we focus on bridging the gap between general dentistry and pediatric expertise, giving GPs the clinical tools, confidence, and support they need to treat children effectively and compassionately.
Our approach goes beyond technical training. We are building a supportive, nationwide network that connects general dentists with experienced pediatric mentors—many of whom understand the unique social, cultural, and economic challenges these communities face because they come from them. This powerful mentor-mentee model fosters clinical excellence, cultural sensitivity, and community-rooted care.
Through our comprehensive training programs, hands-on CE courses, and collaborative community, Pedo4GP empowers dentists to transform outcomes for children who are too often overlooked.
We are more than a course. We are a movement—uniting dental professionals who are committed to health equity, inspired by service, and equipped to make a lasting impact.
Together, we are creating a future where every child—regardless of income, background, or geography—has access to the high-quality dental care they deserve.
